COLORFUL BIRDS
Birds can be very colorful. Especially the ones that live in Africa.
Usually the male is more colorful than the female because when the male tries impress the female he will show of his colors. The female is usually brownish gray because when she protects her eggs she does not want to be seen or else an animal might eat them.
There are some very colorful birds out there but these are the most colorful well in my opinion and opinion.
1. Hoopoe
The Hoopoe is a very colorful bird found across Afro-Eurasia and is recognized by it’s distinctive ‘crown’ of feathers. It’s name is onomatopoetic which imitates the cry of the bird.
2. Greater Bird Of Paradise
The Greater Bird Of Paradise is a tropical bird found in New Guinea. It has elongated flank feathers that form ornamental plumes. The male has a beautiful colorful plumage of feathers and used to be sought after for hat decorations.
3. Hyacinth Macaw
The Hyacinth Macaw is the largest parrot in the world and can reach 100 cm in length. It is found in central and South America but unfortunately due to a huge demand for the Hyacinth Macaw as a pet it has had a drastic effect on it’s population.
4. Scarlet Tanager
The scarlet tanager is a medium-sized American songbird. The males are more colorful with a bright red body and black wings and tail.
5. Kingfisher
The kingfisher has over ninety different varieties of species and are found throughout the world. They are a small bird with long bills and sturdy bodies that helps them in being masters of fishing.
6. Green Wing Macaw Parrot
The Green-winged macaws are faithful partners and mate for life. They have no eye lines and are often reffered to as “gentle giants” as they are larger the Scarlet and Blue Macaws but have a more docile, sweet nature.
7. Rainbow Lorikeet
The Rainbow Lorikeet is earned it’s name because almost every color of the rainbow are found on the feathers. The Rainbow Lorikeet have a surprising long lifespan of over 20 years.
8. Peacock
The Peacock is of the pheasant family and the male is one of the most colorful birds in the world. The males are famous for displaying a fan of feathers to attract a mate.
9. Golden Pheasant
The Golden Pheasant while a bird of beauty is often hunted for sport. When attracting a mate, the male spreads his deep orange feathers and it is truly a magnificent sight.
10. Keel Billed Toucan
While the Toucan’s feathers are not so colorful it’s beak has the colors of a rainbow. Native to South america this bird likes to live in the high canopies of the rain forests.
11. Bohemian Waxwing
Few people know about the Bohemian Waxwing but it is a bird of beauty hiding underneath it’s gray plumage. The Bohemian Waxwing has stunning rose-colored feathers on its face and it’s tail has a vibrant yellow tip.
12. The Quetzal
As colorful and spectacular the Quetzal is it is becoming endangered in it’s native habitat of Central America.
13. Crowned Crane
The Crowned Crane lives in Africa and likes to nest in wet areas so it can keep cool. It doesn’t migrate and is a regular site around rivers and lakes in the African Savannah.
14. Northern Cardinal
The Northern Cardinal is a mid-sized songbird and also known as the Redbird and the Virginia nightingale. It has a bright red body and males have black mask while the females have a gray mask.
15. American Goldfinch
The American goldfinch or Wild Canary male has a brightly colored plumage and combines his colors and aerial moves to attract a mate. It also tries to charm the females with a bit of singing too.
16. Troupial
The Troupial is the national bird of Venezuela and is pretty large in size with a long tail and a bulky bill. This bird is very aggressive and prefers to steal nests from other birds rather than make one of it’s own.
17. Mountain Bluebird
The Mountain Bluebird have light underbellies and black eyes. Adult males are distinguished by their thinner turquoise blue bills. The females are slightly different in color too with duller blue wings and tail.
18. Eastern Rosella
The Eastern Rosella is native to Australia and is an amazing singer, it is also able to learn to speak. Due to it’s speaking ability and singing people like to have Rosellas as pets but the bird prefers to stay away from humans.
19. Painted Bunting
The painted bunting is regarded as the most beautiful bird in North America. It was once a popular pet bird but since a law prohibiting it’s capture was enforced it is now only spotted outdoors.
20. Golden Conure
The golden conure lives in the Amazon rainforests of Brazil but is currently endangered due to the illegal mass deforestation currently going on. One way the Golden Conure differs from other birds is by it’s unusual breeding technique: a pair of parents usually have a number of volunteers to help raise their young.
21. Dusky Lory
The Dusky Lory is native to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. They have the greatest talking potential than other parrot but due to their awkward eating habits they are rarely kept as pets.
22. Turaco
There are eighteen species of Turacos and are usually blue, green or purple. They are a noisy race and famous for their deafening alarm calls.
24. Guianan Cock-of-the-rock
The Guianan Cock-of-the-rock is a South American bird that prefers to live in rocky areas of tropical rain forests. The males plumage is bright orange and they have a distinctive prominent half-moon crest on their heads which looks like a slice of orange. The females are usually a duller brownish color.
25. Gouldian Finch
The Gouldian Finch is found in Australia and is also referred to as the Rainbow Finch due to it’s colorful plumage. it is another bird that has been classed as endangered.
